Sharpening your saw

Have you taken time off to recharge this summer? I had the opportunity to get away on a mother-daughter trip. I gave myself no work to do. We walked and went sight-seeing; sat in cafes and went on ziplining adventures. We went vintage shopping and read books. On top of it all, I stayed away from the news cycle, which was amazing.

The time off was me “sharpening my saw.” Stephen Covey’s seventh habit from his bestseller, Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, is sharpen your saw. Sharpening your saw means making personal renewal and improvement a priority in four areas:

  • Physical (movement, rest, nourishment)

  • Social/emotional (friends, family)

  • Mental activity (reading, writing, thinking)

  • Spiritual activity (quiet time, music, nature, meditation, etc.)

We must never become too busy sawing
to take the time to sharpen the saw.

~ Dr. Stephen Covey

What are you doing this summer to sharpen your saw?

Keep showing up!
